Gary Lovejoy’s favorite piece in his own home is a gilded Victorian mirror, a flee market find and a magnificent find at that. It is completely at odds with the design in the rest of his vintage 50s home; but it is extraordinary, it is impressive, and it definitely stands out — a lot like Gary and his tremendous body of work.

 

The genius of Gary’s designs lie in their complete simplicity.

His interiors are clean and uncluttered, always elegant whether they are modern or very traditional in style. The character of his work evolves from his design philosophy, the focus of which is the importance of the interior as it relates to the architecture of a space in scale, proportion and style while responding to his client’s needs and comfort. Gary believes in a contemporary approach, drawing upon flowing lines that visually expand the interior through finely designated details, furnishings and color. 

 

A native Washingtonian, Gary is still consistently energized by the unequaled character of the city. To him, its remarkable nature is a combination of elements. There is constant access to the world’s foremost art and architecture and the city provides a wonderful blend of an accommodating and very livable style. Gary has had the unique distinction of watching as the area has blossomed into a more modern scene amid its unmistakable historic influences. 

 

With a bachelor’s degree in interior design from the University of Maryland, Gary has spent a life of over 40 years in the world of design. Formerly of Lovejoy-Maxwell & Associates, Inc., Gary established his own firm in 1983. Now a paragon of DC design, Lovejoy & Associates, Inc. has been involved in creating brilliant and ethereal interiors for his clients luxury homes, summer retreats, pieds-a-terre from

South Beach to Manhattan.

 

His accomplishments have not gone unnoticed within the community of his peers. Gary has received the ASID Designer of Distinction Award, the Washington Design Hall of Fame Award, Washingtonian Magazine Top 20 Designers in DC, and has been published in House Beautiful, Southern Accents, The Washington Post, Luxury Homes of Washington, Traditional Home, and Home & Design Magazine.
